Schools Development Programme

There are now more children attending school in sub-Saharan Africa than ever before. Parents often spend what little money they have on sending their children to school, but sadly the standard of education can be poor and children do not always learn the valuable skills needed to thrive in the future.

We support work with teachers and school leaders in rural primary schools through a series of seminars, coaching and school-based support.  A team of skilled Education staff deliver regular teacher and school leader training sessions focusing on practical techniques to improve teaching and learning, working towards every child receiving not just an education, but an excellent education.

We also run a mobile library which visits all 45 partner schools regularly, ensuring children gain access to books to develop literacy skills and foster a love of reading.

Model School Partnership

We are working closely with 2 local schools to create models of excellence within communities. Pursue works alongside the school leader to improve quality of education so that other teachers can visit and observe best practice

Adult Literacy Classes

More than one in three adults in western Kenyan are illiterate and this has a huge impact on their self esteem and ability to find paid employment. Pursue supports work within communities offering literacy and numeracy classes to those otherwise unable to access learning. We want to see more people able to provide for their families through employment or managing their own enterprises.

Youth Entrepreneurship Training

The rural location of Pursue’s work means that there are many young people who have finished studies but lack opportunities for formal employment. We run weekly entrepreneurship training to enable youths to use their skills and resources to begin their own businesses.
